Services :: Content Management Systems
For economic and esthetic reasons, most web pages are created by a web designer — and they are updated by a web designer. However, if your website displays data that needs to be frequently updated, you may want to invest in a Content Management System (CMS).
What is a Content Management System?
A CMS stores data in a database. It provides facilities for you to update the data and generates some pages on-the-fly from the data in the database. That sounds complicated because it is complicated and it takes a long time to develop an application from scratch.
Do you need a CMS application?
If you need to list your products, services, news, events on your site you may need to acquire a CMS with applications for each of these purposes.
Page Mine CMS Applications
Over the past decade, we have developed CMS applications for our clients that we can quickly customize for you.
- Martin Kaspers has created a dozen photo albums for his art
- The Mortgage Centre updates their best mortgage rates every day
- Desert Drilling lists used diamond drilling equipment for sale
- Linda McKenny shows where she painted her pictures on a Google Map
- Ray Hellmen displays his stained glass art
- Rivershore Boats lists boats for sale
- Woodsman Equipment lists equipment for sale
- Rocky’s Tattoo Parlor shows recent clients
Each application in a Page Mine CMS will cost you $300–$400 up front but it will allow you to update specific content any time you like without having to pay somebody else to do it for you.
Is there a CMS that does everything?
The Open Source Community has invested millions of hours developing free software such as Joomla, Drupal and WordPress that include hundreds of applications. They have come a long way and they are being tested by some companies — with mixed results. We do not believe they can ever replace professional website developers for business sites.
For non-profit organizations, there is no reason why you should not create or maintain your entire site. However a business site will get many more visitors, load faster, look better and bring you more business — if you hire a professional to develop and maintain it for you.
The best business sites are developed and maintained by professionals — although they may require custom applications. They may also benefit by working with social media sites — blogs, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr et cetera.
